Hortus Amicus w/ Izabelė • Vol IV: Asclepias cornuti • 2026.07.07
musical tribute to Asclepias cornuti, which is deeply rooted in Indigenous American folklore mythology. To this day, people remain fascinated by the phenomenon of a plant that looks like a bird. It evokes the idea of Batesian mimicry, in which a plant or animal evolves to imitate alarming patterns or forms to appear scary or toxic. However, botanists regard it as a beautiful coincidence and call it pareidolia—the cognitive phenomenon to recognize familiar patterns in random stimuli. They say it is a bird that has never existed — a simulacrum. Yet the question remains: is it a game of the brain or the creativity of nature?
