Hortus Amicus w/ Izabelė • Vol II: Olea europaea Solidarity Radio Fundraiser for Palestine and Lebanon • 2026.04.18
Olea europaea (Latin olea – oil), the oil-producing tree of the Mediterranean, is native to regions including Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria. There it has been grown for centuries and carries deep symbolic meanings. The dove with an olive leaf in represents peace and renewal, while the tree’s long life embodies resilience and connection to the land. In Palestine, it symbolizes resistance to displacement, known as sumud (صمود). Many trees are centuries old, yet olive groves face destruction due to settler violence and restricted access to their own land, threatening both heritage and survival. Solidarity Radio: Fundraiser for Palestine and Lebanon is a day of music and spoken word contributions from Radio Vilnius residents and guests to raise money for the Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund. The fund provides critical help to children of Gaza and Lebanon, as well as their caretakers, including evacuation, medical, psychological and social care.
