The Soulful Exchange of Xenodochy w/ B. GODSun • Vol. X: ghetto (a hip-hopera) • 2023.10.26
A ghetto is the part of a city in which members of a minority group live, especially in the case of social or economic pursuit. It’s the area that birthed me and still carry it with me. Filled with people who protect it, people who dream of getting out and growing past the struggle and the occasional drunk or crackhead perusing the streets, the ghetto is a magical place that can either make or break you. In the grand scheme of things, Earth (even in its pure glory and beauty) is so ghetto and filled with inhabitants of all kinds who just want to live. Inspired by the dodgyness and unpredictability of the ghetto I decided to approach it from all angles; good, bad, beauty, and ugly. What better way to journey through the ghetto than through the scope of a hip-hopera? One thing’s for sure: you can take the girl out the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out the girl.
