The Soulful Exchange of Xenodochy w/ B. GODSun • Vol. IX: blackness • 2023.09.21
After moving from a country where I pretty much existed as the “only Black man” and ending a tumultuous relationship with my ex-fiancé (a white man) who diminished my sense of self, I had (and still have) a long journey of healing to embark on. Through my experiences and community I am constantly reminded that Blackness is not a monolith — it stands, dances, destroys, builds, enhances, heals, performs, rests, prays, eats, inhales, exhales, repents, praises, cries, screams, questions, answers, lives and dies in a multitude of facets that evolves every waking second. This is a reminder to myself that my Blackness is valid and that my imperfections are the exact blueprint of genuine love and beauty from God Himself. “Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me.” — Zora Neale Hurston
